This is a question I often get asked from women approaching peremenopause or from women that are 45years + and I thought we would take a look at the reasons why weight gain can occur , and what we can do to prevent it .
Hormonal changes of menopause might make you more likely to gain weight around your abdomen than around your hips and thighs. But, hormonal changes alone are not always the cause for weight gain.
Instead, the weight gain can be about aging, as well as lifestyle choices and in some cases, genetic factors.
Most women do gain weight as they age, but excess pounds aren’t inevitable.
So what can we do to minimize menopause weight gain or weight gain in general as we get older?
Working with ame4change to navigate how to deal with these challenging issues, can benefit you through this challenging time by creating positive habits towards eating healthily, and creating an active lifestyle, you can reverse the wieght gain. In other words, for within the perceived areas you can control.
Weight gain may also be down to a build up towards food intolerances where you could increase an extra size by building up a sensitivity to food, and this happen at any age .https://ame4change.co.uk/food-intolerance-and-food-allergies/
Muscle mass typically diminishes with age which can slow the rate at which your body uses calories (metabolism).
This can make it more challenging to maintain a healthy weight. If you continue to eat as you always have and don’t increase your physical activity, you’re likely to gain weight.
Working with you to find the right balance for you and that fits into your lifestyle can create the positive changes to maintain a healthy body weight.
Genetic factors might also play a role in menopause weight gain. If your parents or other close relatives carry extra weight around the abdomen, you’re likely to do the same.
Lack of sleep as well as exercise might also contribute to weight gain.
When people don’t get enough sleep, they tend to snack more and consume more calories.
Excess weight, especially around your midsection can have an overall impact om your overall health and may increase your risk of many issues, including:
- Breathing problems
- Heart and blood vessel disease
- Type 2 diabetes
There’s no magic formula for preventing — or reversing , but what we can do is
MOVE MORE – EAT LESS – CHECK YOUR SWEET HABIT – DRINK LESS ALCOHOL
Seek support – and working together for successful weight loss at any stage of life requires permanent changes in diet and exercise habits.
